Let’s take a look at her life and career highlights as she turns 29.

From a History Graduate to a Model
Huma Qureshi was born in New Delhi to Indian Muslim family. Quiet contrary to conventional Muslim norms, she pursued a career in showbiz industry and joined a theater group to make her dream come true. Luckily, she got opportunity to work in Act 1 theater where she assisted a documentary film director. However, her acting skills needed a bigger platform that took her to modeling field.

Upon launching her modeling career, she worked with the best of Bollywood actors that included biggies like Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan. Remember that expected wife of Shahrukh Khan in Nerolac ad film and ladylove of Aamir Khan in Samsung Mobile ad. After a dream launch in Ad films, she just needed a Bollywood break to prove her real acting mettle. Much to her luck, she got a chance to work with Anurag Kashyap in his directorial venture “Gangs of Wasseypur”.

An Actress Has Arrived
After tasting initial success in modeling, she appeared in “Gangs of Wasseypur” as “Mohisna”, the ladylove of goon “Faizal Khan” played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Her depiction of the character clicked buttons of the audience and she earned a voluminous appraise for the role. Her unique looks, intensity and energy breathed life to the character and got her first nomination at the prestigious Filmfare awards for the role of “Mohsina”. The actress was also placed 3rd on a poll conducted by Reddiff.com for the “Top Ten Bollywood Debutants”.

TidBit: Huma Qureshi was to make her debut in a Tamil film “Billa II” which she opted out as the film was delayed.

Journey to Success
After wooing hearts of audience and critics with her intense performance in GOWP, Huma Qureshi acted in supernatural drama “Ek Thi Dayan” where she made her presence felt among the likes of Emraan Hashmi and Konkona Sen Sharma. The film went on to be a hit and established her feet in Bollywood.

In 2014, she played a seductress “Muniya” in “Dedh Ishqiya” along with the veteran actor of Bollywood Naseerudddin Shah and her teenage idol “Madhuri Dixit”. Despite presence of such veteran actors, Huma Qureshi was able to give a convincing performance that earned her accolades of both classes and the masses. She even got the coveted “Stardust trophy” for “Breakthrough Supporting Performance” and a nomination in IIFAA.

What to Expect Next?
After achieving success in the B-Town, Huma Qureshi is treading cautiously as seen in her choice of film selection. She is in no hurry to fetch films and is taking her time to understand the rules of the trade. The actress will be seen in Nikhil Advani’s next untitled film and a project with her godfather Anurag Kashyap in his next project which is titled “Madam X” where she will be playing a meaty role.

Huma Qureshi is a bundle of talent who has a knack to giving powerful performance. She is a natural actress who never shies away experimenting with her roles. She has successfully reinvented herself in her previous movies and we hope that she will continue this mantra in her next films as well. Wishing her happy birthday and all the success in future!
