Finally, Anees Bazmee comes up with sequel of Welcome after a wait of eight years. Like its prequel, the film features an ensemble star cast. However, this time you will be watching a few new faces including veterans like Naseeruddin Shah and Dimple Kapadia, while John Abraham and Shruti Hassan will be replaced Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif of the prequel.
In today’s Bollywood gossips, BiWi digs deeper into the movie to know what the film has to offer to the audience:
Welcome Back traces back lives of Don Brothers Uday (played by Nana Patekar) and Majnu (Anil Kapoor) from where they left in the prequel. Struggling for a decent life in Dubai, both the don brothers trap in a situation as they want to marry her younger sister Ranjana (played by Shruti Hassan) so that they could themselvestie the nuptial knot. For the worse, they fell for con girls to poonam (played by Dimple Kapadia) and Babita (played by Ankita Shrivastav).
In a twist of events, their fate collides again with Ghughroo (played by Paresh Rawal) as his step-son and gangster Ajju (John Abraham) has a love encounter with Ranjana. But, there is a problem as Ajju himself boasts as a notorious goon and this irks the don brothers of Ranjana.
In the midst of it all enters Wanted Bhai (played by Naseeruddin Shah) who wants to marry his only son Honey (played by Shiney Ahuja) with his ladylove Ranjana. However, he has to first get rid of Ajju to win Ranjana. In all this chaos, we get to see a fine story with some best comic moments.
Welcome Back should be watched for some of the best dialogues. It is John Abraham’s cutthroat comic timing that does the magic. His best one is “Mobile uski, sim apun ka, tu beech mein missed call dene waala kaun?” The perfect timing of the actor is what creates the fun element in the dialogue. Watch it to believe it.
The chemistry between Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar once again comes across brilliantly on the screen as don brothers. John Abraham recreates his gangster avatar as “Ajju” after “Manya Surve”. But this time he has a sense of humor. Naseer Uddin Shah does full justice with his role as Wanted Bhai.
Welcome Back is all madness filled with good humor. The movie lacks substance in the storyline and there is a disorder in the way the story approaches the climax. Despite all mess in the plot, Welcome Back stupidly brings out good humor which is the soul of this movie.
Music Has a Fun Flavor
Unlike its prequel, the music of Welcome Back has no chart-buster but the album certainly lives up to the expectations of the audience. Songs like “Welcome Back”, “Meet Me Daily Baby” and “20 20” are good fun for listeners. To sum up, it is a typical Bazmee flavor of music.
With all its silliness and awkwardness, Welcome Back managed to pull the audience with its humor. In spite of a loose plot, the film deserves a watch particularly because of commendable performances of Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor. 3/5.
